from 736 reviewsNexus Origins is such a fun book. Great artwork and story, but reading it makes me think of the old saying "History may not repeat, but it certainly rhymes." It's hard to believe the book was written all those years ago considering how relevant it feels. A man constantly tormented by the evils of other men, and the only release is to murder murderors. Highly recommended.
This is a brilliant work of comic art. The characters, the layouts and the colour mixes all blend together seamlessly to produce a quality which I haven't seen since the Golden Age. I really cannot praise Steve "The Dude" Rude's work enough...Truly special and timeless stuff!
A good story and the usual great art. A shocking turn of events upends the Nexus Universe. I'll leave it to you to find out what that is. I'm looking forward to the colored version. So far Steve & Company are batting a thousand. I'm very happy to see Nexus resurrected and will continue to support these projects as long as Steve is willing and able. Thank you! GK
The Thing has always been my favorite character. Steve Rude captures his tragic appearance with humorous personality and situation. Not only did I love opening this gift up on Christmas morning, but I was pleasantly surprised by Jaynelle upgrading this purchase with the Dude's signature on the print! Thanks! Can't wait to frame this and put it on my Fantastic Four wall!
My name is Adam and this order ended up being my Christmas gift. After watching some interviews of Steve doing sketches or art studies made me want to start drawing in my sketchbook on a daily basis again. Now also having one of Steve’s sketchbooks is a helpful reminder that even the pros still like to practice.
It's always such a treat to pour through artwork by Steve Rude, but it's a learning experience to read through his process while going through his Sketchbooks!
The mail quickly brought 2 Sketchbooks and a Beautiful "Clobbered" Thing print, but I had to wait till Christmas morning to open them up and enjoy. Definitely worth the wait! And then to discover that Jaynelle had upgraded the print to include a Dude signature made it even better! Thanks so much! I've got days of Sketchbook studying ahead!
I'm never disappointed with Steve's art and sketch books! Always have interesting notes and suggestions for himself in drawing various subjects! Love seeing the art from his actual sketchbooks that he does himself and not just commissions. Nice to see the expanded pages thanks to Kickstarter too! Appreciate the quick delivery as well! Thank you!
Wowza, The Coming of Gourmando artist edition is amazing. Showing the story in finished colour, pencils and inked black and white pages, this really shows the Dude’s process. Simply a master of his craft -
I received my mystery box in great condition. The piece of original art is exquisite. The coolest part was receiving one of the rare nexus figures.
Adams, Smith, Gulacy, Mignola, Powell. I've loved a number of comic book artists before and after Steve Rude, but the Dude is my all-time favorite. His skill is matched only by the joy he brings to his images.
This huge book features all the characters associated with him; Nexus, Sundra, Judah (and Kreed!), to Superman, Batman, and the Hulk, but also Big Barda, Supergirl, and countless others. And in all variety of media, finished watercolors, tons of marker illustrations, pencil studies, thumbnails and color roughs progressing to finished paintings of the Fantastic Four and Superman...it's all here and I couldn't be happier to look through it endlessly.
The Space Ghost cover is worth the price of admission by itself. The 2023 sketchbook is handsomely produced and is replete with beautiful illustrations. Steve Rude peels back the curtain on his process; the initial ideas, the thinking and execution behind his superlative work. He also shares quotes and anecdotes that reflect his ever probing and thoughtful approach. We are lucky to have Steve Rude with us and I'm very grateful for that.
This beautiful set of drawings are a visual haiku; stripped of all detail yet communicating the essence wonderfully. Steve Rude is always conscious of form as the basis for drawing. He has the animator's talent for seeing forms as 3 dimensional objects in a 2D space. We're lucky to have him.
This drawing is a zen like image; it appears simple but contains a wealth of information beneath the surface. Steve Rude has internalized forms moving through space and working in unison to create depth. He prioritizes gesture, proportion and basic forms which is why his art is consistently superb and rewards close study for students.
Once again, The Dude has produced a true work of art. This is the second in a series of full figure painted portraits that Steve created for me. The first featured Batman. The commissioning process went smoothly with Jaynelle communicating with me every step of the way. I was able to see a rough before the piece was finished. To the Rudes, you’ve got a friend and customer for life. Thanks again!
The Dude has not lost a step, if anything he’s better than ever. Beautifully designed and full of amazing work in all stages including some unedited Superman pages. I didn’t know what my life was missing but it turns out it was a Steve Rude drawing of Apache Chief fighting Galactus.
